Former political secretary under investigation for cheating poor, MACC seizes 10 luxury vehicles
A former political secretary to a prominent Umno politician is being probed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the poor under the government's 1AZAM (Akhiri Zaman Miskin) programme.
The man, who is a Datuk, arrived at the MACC office yesterday for questioning.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Shukri Abdull told The Malaysian Insider that the Datuk, in his 40s, has not been charged yet.
"He was arrested and is being questioned," Shukri said in a text message.
The 1AZAM programme is a government initiative under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
It was introduced in January 2010 to provide employment opportunities to the hardcore poor in the business, service and agriculture sectors.
The Welfare Department has spent RM1.35 billion so far to provide aid to 473,928 recipients nationwide. - September 17, 2013.
